Meet Verena

My love for horses goes way back – being around them, riding and learning every chance I got . Through all the ups and downs of growing up, horses saved me.”

Growing up in Germany, I spent every spare minute at the barn; not just riding but also volunteering, performing all the chores and working with horses to learn as much as I could about Classical German Dressage. I firmly believe that horses are the best teachers… if you are willing and able to listen!

After graduating from law school, I began my career as a lawyer.  At the age of 24, I realized that horses were my true calling. When I met my husband Chris in 2000, I took the opportunity and moved with him to Texas. I said goodbye to my career as a lawyer and began my new career as a Professional Dressage rider and trainer. I worked my way through the Region 9 competition levels and enjoyed many accomplishments.

2017 was the year I earned my USDF Gold Medal on my very own horse Oban. I enjoy the challenge it takes when building a relationship between rider and horse.

Pferdehof is my home and training facility. When teaching, I focus on achieving great communication between horse and rider using Classical German Dressage.  This leads to a successful and harmonious partnership. I chose horse training so that I could always have horses be a part of my life. Horses are good listeners and building the relationship with the horse is easy with a little patience and practice.

Horses… They are all very different. There is not one single training approach. Instead, you have to be adaptable.  You have to listen. Dressage is the fine tuning of riding where you move one muscle and your horse follows lead, goes sideways etc.  It’s a beautiful dance.  We are a team….”

In 2009 my dreams came true.  My husband and I set down our roots and bought our own Dressage facility in Berthoud, Colorado.  We named it Pferdehof.  Which is a German word that roughly translates to “Horse Castle.”

In my spare time,  I enjoy living life in Colorado and all it has to offer in our four seasons.  My family and I go skiing, camping, hiking…you name it!

We also have a great time hanging out and throwing barn parties with our clients and friends.

Goofing around on the golf course 😇
